We Needed a Vehicle for Her Wheelchair

My wife has been in a wheelchair for nearly three years now. At first, it bothered her going out in public. This was painful to watch, because she had been such a social butterfly before the accident that took away her ability to walk. She slowly started coming out of her shell though, and she is probably out more now than what she was before the accident. A large part of this is because we were able to look at wheelchair accessible vans in Orlando not that long ago, and we purchased a nice one that makes getting her around so much easier.

I had no problem with helping her in and out of the car, but there was no one else that she would allow to help her. At first, it was because she was embarrassed, but then it was because it was such a hassle with getting her wheelchair in the trunk of the car. It was heavy and awkward at the same time, so she preferred that I be the only one to help her. When her doctor told us about a dealership in Orlando that has special vans that are easy for people in wheelchairs, we went to look at them.

To say we were impressed is an understatement. The vans were really nice both on the outside as well as the inside. While my wife looked at the cosmetic parts, I wanted to know exactly what was under the hood. I was happy to see that the van was actually better than the car that we had been using, and it would be so much easier with the lift to get her in and out of the vehicle. That also meant that others were able to take her out too, and that is why she is back to being a social butterfly.
